Most people need at least one tooth filling in their lifetime. Dental fillings are most commonly used to treat cavities, but are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down over time.
At Columbia River Dentistry in Vancouver, Washington, we are proud to offer patients with mercury-free dental fillings. These dental fillings, which are called composite dental fillings, are very aesthetic and are better for your overall health.
How is the Dental Filling Placed?
Our dental team uses a drill, laser, or air abrasion instrument to remove the decay. Your tooth will be tested to ensure that the decay has all been removed. The debris and bacteria are then removed from the area. Once the tooth is cleaned, our dentist will place the dental filing. Composite fillings are placed in layers. A special light is then used to cure each layer as it is placed. After all of the layers are in place, our dentist shapes the material to the desired result. Then he will trim off any extra material and polish the final composite dental filling.
