If you have a cavity, Columbia River Dentistry may suggest a dental filling in Portland, OR. Our dentist will remove the decayed area, clean the tooth thoroughly, and fill the area with the dental filling material.
At Columbia River Dentistry, we use mercury-free dental fillings called composite dental fillings. Not only are composite dental fillings more aesthetic than mercury fillings, they are also better for your oral health.
How is the Dental Filling Placed?
To place a dental filling, our dentist will use a drill, laser, or air abrasion instrument to remove the tooth decay. The area is probed to make sure that all of the decay has been removed. Then, the area is cleaned of debris and bacteria. Our dentist will then place the dental filling in that area from which the decay was removed. Composite dental fillings are placed in layers. Our dentist will harden each layer with a curing light as it is placed. Once all of the layers are in place, our dentist will shape the material to the ideal result. Any excess material is trimmed off and the final dental filling is polished.
